Primark t-shirt / Peacocks jeans (very old) / French Connection trench coat / Kookai bag (via charity shop)

Yesterday I undertook the mammoth task of swapping over my winter wardrobe with my summer one, which involved hauling two large plastic tubs down from our attic and sifting through a sea of shorts and summer dresses trying to decide which items would make it into my closet. I was pleasantly surprised at how many things I was genuinely thrilled to see again, and I'm pleased to report that I feel very little desire to buy new Summer clothing (which is fortunate considering I'm so poor). One day I hope I won't have to perform this silly seasonal wardrobe change over, but for now my clothing storage space is too limited to keep everything out the entire year, not to mention my clothing collection is still far too large.

I've spent the majority of this week in shorts and t-shirt as it's been so gloriously sunny, but today was slightly cooler so I brought out my navy French Connection trench coat and a pair of jeans instead. Out of all of the clothing I own, this trench has to be one of my favourite pieces - it's a much better (longer) length than the beige trench I have from Topshop, and the navy is a true dark navy which is often difficult to come by. I purchased this in the FCUK sale last winter at about £150 cheaper than it had been at full price, an incredible bargain. I can't stop wearing this Primark t-shirt, so much so that I bought another one in a blood orange/red colour. My dad said they remind him of the t-shirts he used to wear when he was a kid, and they in turn remind me of the t-shirts the kids wear in the film Super 8. I wore this to attend a meeting (read: cup of coffee and chat about smutty novels) in town regarding a Crime Network conference I'm assisting with on Monday, very exciting stuff!

Oh in case you're wondering what I'm reading today, it's another Mills & Boon gem; The Colour of the Sea by Rosemary Hammond. Tell me, do you do a 'wardrobe switch-over' each season or do you keep the same clothing in your closet all year round?

  1. I keep everything in the same place (except from winter coats), hanging. I have a small furniture for underwear, sleepwear, workout clothes.
But for now, everything is packed in cardboardboxes, and it won't see the light until probably the 16th of April... I'm moving to an unfinished apartment.

  2. I like the trench + striped tee. I live in a tropical climate, so I wear my clothes year round.

  4. "Another Mills & Boon gem" This killed me:)))

The primark tee looks lovely, I had guessed uniqlo, a perfect fit - which is difficult to find, I think. My last two were from Asos - although they have sagged a fair bit at the hem. Still, my APC tee isn't particularly awesome in comparison, and cost a heck of a lot more, so I am left somewhat confused and irritated by teeshirt purchasing in general.

I always have trouble locating the right fit with trench coats, also, and have begun to wonder if I am simply not meant to wear them. It's weird how sometimes an article (or style) of clothing can seem to fight against you. I have so far suffered 2 mistakes via Zara, one inferior quality petite version from miss selfridge, and believe it or not, a fairly decent, perfect fitting trench from primark 4 yrs ago which is still going strong (wrong colour for me, though). And the primark trench seems more hardy and better made than the others, which leaves me kinda baffled!

    End of trench rant ;)

    Cute bag also!

    1. Lapine, I agree about trench coat quality being elusive and confusing. I am forever feeling them in stores and trying them on, and there are very few fabrics that I've ever been impressed by. Having the wrong sort of fabric/fit makes the coat very bunched up when you tie it with the belt, or look rumpled and wrinkled even when not tied. I've held off for many years buying a spring/summer trench, because I haven't found one in a heavy enough fabric/good cut that would avoid these problems.

I do have a wool trench coat (totally heavier winter coat) that I love, however! But it does have the perfect fit for me, so when I belt it it doesn't bunch up a lot.

    2. ahh thanks - I absolutely love the Primark tee, surprisingly because I rarely shop there for myself any more. I think t-shirts definitely have an upper limit to how good they can be, so I'd probably never spend more than about £40 on one (and even that would be pushing it). This is a particularly good item for Primark, a really good fit and actual t-shirt sleeves instead of those horrible cap sleeves! I wish they had the same style t-shirts in plain fabrics too but alas, they do not.

I totally get the trench coat frustrations. I went through about three before I found this one and fell in love. I think the key things I look for in a trench now are - no waist seam (just straight up and down with a waist created by the belt), good quality fabric and lining, knee length, and a unisex fit. This French Connection is definitely the best one I've found, although the buckle is covered in PU not leather which I'm not fond of. The trench coats in Zara have always baffled me, I always think I'll like them and then try them on and they look horrible and feel cheap!

I saw some really lovely beige ones in Joseph the other day and I definitely would have got one if I'd had the money. I have a beige Topshop one which would be just about perfect if it was about 4 inches longer, it's so annoying!

  6. I wear most of my clothes all year round, with varying degrees of layering depending on the temperature. Love this look, stripey tee & jeans is one of my most beloved combinations of clothing :-D. X

  9. Oh yes, I am also doomed to have to pack all the clothes each season and swap with the ones kept in the attic. So I do feel your pain:). Newertheless I also keep nicely stored my clothes for travelling (read-lots of comfortable tops and trekking shoes ;) which I always feel excited to take out-beacuse it means I go far away:)) Sadly didnt hppen this year, as Im also very poor;(. But there is hope always, even for my clothes:)
