Betsy Brandt as Marie Schrader in Breaking Bad
I didn't start writing this post intending it to be Marie Schrader themed, but she seems to have muscled her way in somehow. I've been watching Breaking Bad non stop for about two weeks now and have just started on season four; I'm utterly obsessed (why can't I just like things like a normal human being, humnn? why'd I have to be OBSESSED with them!?). Marie Schrader is hands down my favourite character -- she may be batshit crazy, but wow, she's so awesome. Am I the only one who's noticed that she loves purple!? All of her clothes are purple, her house is decorated all purple, and everywhere she goes purple things seem to gravitate towards her... it's amazing. I'm too lazy to do any screen grabs today (plus I don't want to spoiler anyone) so you'll just have to trust me, or go look on Google or something.
Purple has never really been a colour I've chosen on purpose in terms of clothing, but I have noticed that some of my most well loved items are in varying shades of plum, blackcurrant and mauve. It goes well with my 'wet sand' coloured hair and perfectly compliments my large collection of grey basics and knitwear. I have a full skirted dress from Matalan which is about six years old and has been worn to death but is absolutely perfect for everything and makes me feel great without fail. Guess what colour? Yup, purple.
wool cardigan / long sleeve t-shirt / corduroy skirt / corduroy trousers x2 / leather tote / wool turtle neck
I keep getting told that purple is 'bang on trend' for this autumn/winter (see the cover of Elle Collections, if you don't believe me) and I think Marie totally started it. I know it may seem as though I'm jumping the gun a little - thinking about autumn in August - but the weather here seriously cannot make its mind up and it's doing my nut in... sunny or cold, okay? I'm fed up of changing my outfit five times a day.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: the weather kinda sucks, Marie is awesome, start wearing purple, and go watch Breaking Bad, got it? Good.

haha, i just finished watching the latest episode a second ago. SO GOOD. i, too noticed marie + purple sometime last season, and it just made me think she's even more insane, though in a lovable kind of way, as you say. i actually hate purple and would never, ever, wear it, but i very much love darker plums and burgundies and can't wait until it's not 35° C out so i can start thinking about fall as well!
ReplyDeleteahh is it still good by the final season? I'm scared that it's going to turn shit (like so many other series I've watched *ahem* Lost *ahem*)...
Deletemmm plum, I love plum! It's more elegant than purple, right?
I love that show. I love that they can imprint a character like Marie vividly in our heads with a few strategic scenes and all these sartorial touches - she seems like a fully formed character even though she isn't central to the show.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I don't like purple haha.
yes exactly! it makes her so well rounded, even though we don't find out much about her job or anything. amazing.
DeleteWhat is this Breaking Bad that I am hearing so much about? This sounds like another something which has passed me by ... like Downtown Abbey. I do like purple though - more specifically, aubergine type shades as I've seen touches of it in the house without me realising and it has been my downfall before now. It does seem early to be thinking about Autumn but I already have 2 jumpers for the cooler months ahead planned. Get them before they go - that's my motto. Not because you need them ;o)
ReplyDeleteyou must watch it, it's amazing! It was on UK tv for a little while (on like channel 4 I think) before Sky picked it up and I'd never managed to get back into it because I don't have Sky, but finally got it on DVD!
DeleteI'm so in the dark on TV (I barely watch any), so I don't know anything about Breaking Bad other than the mentions on blogs- ha.
ReplyDeleteIt's August so I think it's OK to think about Autumn:)
I'm don't know about purple, but I love burgundy and aubergine. I feel like those colors have been all over the runways for several seasons and show no signs of going away.
I barely watch tv either, which is why I'm always late to the game! I usually only watch series on DVD or over the internet, which means I watch the entire thing in one go haha (no cliff hangers for me!). aubergine is a lovely colour - I love the idea of aubergine woolen knits for some reason, and I also like aubergine tartan, so I hope I can add some of those colours to my wardrobe this autumn :)
